The ex-president was convicted of plotting a government overthrow in last fall and handed more than over two decades in prison, but he continued under confinement pending appeals.
Top Judicial Official the presiding justice said the action to imprison the septuagenarian politician was a precautionary step after recent developments came to light.
This included seeking to disable his electronic bracelet and a summons to a public vigil that could "allow for a chance to flee".
Court Filing Details Flight Fears
In a document approving the detention, the judge said information from the facility tracking Bolsonaro's house arrest suggested the former leader's "intention to break the surveillance device to secure accomplishment in his getaway".
This, it said, would be assisted by the confusion caused by the protest called by his son.
His son, Flávio, who serves as a congressional representative, called for a gathering of his followers near his father's house to take place on Saturday night.
Flávio Bolsonaro wrote on digital networks on Friday: "Are you going to fight for your country, or see it all from your mobile device there on your couch? I invite you to battle with us."
He said the vigil would be so followers could "pray for his health and for the reestablishment of democratic governance in our land."
Foreign Shelter Risks
Part of the judge's decision was the possibility of Bolsonaro's transfer to foreign missions near the home, considering that the investigations revealed a background of planning to request asylum through a diplomatic representation", a declaration said.
The judicial paperwork underscores that the American diplomatic mission in the national capital, Brasilia, is positioned around approximately 13 kilometers from his dwelling.
Worldwide Consequences
His judicial problems have drawn the ire of fellow conservative nationalist United States President Donald Trump, leading him to implement a fifty percent tax on Brazilian product imports.
The former president is being kept in a Federal Police station in Brasilia and will have a custody hearing on Sunday.
Recent Judicial Appeals
