A person who spiked candy with sleeping medication and provided them to minors at a youth camp in the region has admitted sexual offenses against two young males who were nine and ten years old.
The accused was arrested after eight children and one adult fell ill at the facility in July.
The elderly man, from that region, admitted guilt to a multiple criminal counts when he stood at Leicester Crown Court on Friday.
Nevertheless, he disputed one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was against a young boy.
The accused was held in detention before a subsequent court date on November 28th.
'Treat game'
Mary Prior KC, handling the case, described Ruben's offending to the judicial body.
She stated his victims were children from difficult backgrounds who were attending a summer program which he operated.
Ruben played a "sweet game" with the children, the prosecutor said, in which he would go into the boys' rooms when they were settling down and tell them to eat sweets "as fast as possible".
She told the court Ruben had played this game with the young males "over an extended period", and children had previously become sick the subsequent day.
She explained Ruben had been able to explain this repeatedly as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had suspicions in recently.
Mrs Prior KC continued: "This year his stepson had concerns about the situation, with valid cause.
"They resolved" to investigate in the individual's items."
The prosecutor stated materials including infant oil, ointment and syringes were discovered, and his family member alerted the law enforcement about his suspicions.
She stated the man continued to engage in the "sweet game" with six children that time - that Saturday - and they were everyone unwell the subsequent day.
"Law enforcement" had not arrived by that point," she continued.
The regulatory agency, the investigative body, earlier informed that it was investigating the police response of the events.
The prosecutor stated the youngsters were struggling to walk due to their condition, so Ruben's stepson contacted the police again.
She said the man then played the "sweet game" in a space of five children.
