Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a exciting storyline including celestial beings, evil spirits, and dark forces increasing in strength within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Key plot points for the latest installment of the new season follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
Episode 3 concluded with a huge suspense moment and introduced the initial group of heroes who will split off from the primary party to begin their separate journey, apart from the remaining groups.
This warrior group features Teor (played by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
Dividing the Cast
Considering a large ensemble, it was obvious from the start that keeping everyone at a single group would be impossible.
That’s why, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, connecting the individual narratives before branching into three separate parties: Warriors, Planners, and Questers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
Per the DM, the Soldiers table is for participants who are drawn to a typically action-packed fight-heavy gameplay experience where diplomatic options are few and far between.
Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might look mismatched, but the events of episode 3 show why these particular heroes are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the group has a clear idea where to go next after a intense first encounter with the antagonists.
Casimir of the deceased character—whose demise initiated the campaign’s events—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, entering Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and taking all the powerful objects to dispose of.
Casimir then paid off his debts and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, above the city, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.
Character Drivers
Additionally, each adventurer has a specific drive to depart Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as the close ally and closest confidant, desires revenge.
- Kattigan has experience in Timmony and warns that it is a nasty place.
- The warrior and The healer, having resisted his family’s wishes to eliminate Teor and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
- But, their status as important members in House Halovar could assist the team reach areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Moreover, The grateful character vowed a unbreakable promise to The savior for his rescue and will now follow him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
In addition, all of them are hunted by the authorities that rule Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making remaining behind dangerous:
- The rogue and The hero are notorious outlaws.
- The warrior and The cleric betrayed the influential house and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
- Teor is wanted dead by the family.
This results in them little choice but to journey toward the remote area in search of Casimir.
Future Episodes
Based on the latest episode’s post-show segment, we find out that the combat party will not appear next week, leaving the remaining eight cast members to round up the Seekers and Strategists tables.
Viewers can expect learning which adventurers will be where in the story’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on October 24.
